Thoughts on Religion

At rock bottom, there are two key reference points in my life.

  • One is “ME” that can see, smell, hear, taste, and touch, all of which are tied to my physical body.  I also have a brain that thinks, which opens choice in decision-making.
  • The other is “THEE” (YOU) that occupies my space either in person, in memory, or imagination.

In turn, “THEE” is divided into two sub-divisions:  OTHER PEOPLE and GOD.

Those who acknowledge and have concern only for OTHER PEOPLE are often called humanists and those who also deny the existence of God are titled atheists.

Those who acknowledge and have reverence for a higher power are into religion, which has many different expressions.

For some, GOD is a very active, intimate, personalized force in individual lives and community affairs, which is a Christian belief that I embrace.

For others, God exists but is very distant, impersonal, and scarcely involved in human life, which tends to be a more Eastern religious belief.

My belief is that God created the universe and world in it and that he continues to create and to work actively his Will in human affairs.  I believe that God is Sovereign and Three-in-One (God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit).   Further, God is father/mother love but also Holy, without sin, and a judge.  The “ME” in me likes to pretend I am God and make decisions that are totally centered round ME rather than OTHERS.  This is defined as sin, which now infects every human being including me.  The Christian Bible is my reference on God’s plan to teach humankind how to live (to love God and one another), to be absolved from sin through belief in Jesus and his sacrificial death, and to be at peace and in a meaningful relationship with Almighty God.

My life mission (servant hood) is to serve God and humanity to the best of my ability.  Thereby will I also serve my own best interests, now and forever more.
